Hi everyone,
Running has become an incredible gift in my life—one I never knew I needed. It challenges me, strengthens me, and brings me immense joy. This year, I am taking on several running events across South Australia, including the Semaphore Classic 10km on Sunday, February 9th, the Great Southern Bolt 12km from Myponga to Aldinga on Sunday, March 2nd, the Adelaide Half Marathon (21.1km) on Sunday, May 4th, Hills to Henley 10km on 27th July, Barossa Valley 5km on 24th August, City 2 Bay 12km on September 21st, Melbourne 10km on October 12th, McLaren Vale 5km on October 19th and Point to Pinnacle Half Marathon (21.1km) in Hobart on November 17th. But this time, my journey is about more than just personal achievement—I am running to make a difference.
I have chosen to fundraise for the Animal Welfare League, a charity that is very close to my heart. Their mission to rescue and rehome lost and abandoned animals resonates deeply with me. Every pet deserves love, care, and a second chance at happiness.
My father passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in late 2023, an event that shook my world and reinforced the importance of family. Through this difficult time, my greatest source of comfort has been my mother and, unknowingly, my loyal dog, Angus. The unwavering love of a pet is unlike anything else—it is a bond that heals, supports, and brings light to the darkest days. That’s why I am dedicated to helping animals in need find the love and security of a forever home.
I also live with Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA3), a progressive neurological condition that makes movement and coordination increasingly challenging. Despite this, I have never let it define me. With the unwavering support of my family, I push forward, determined to prove that resilience and passion can overcome any obstacle. My goal is not only to complete these races but to inspire others through my actions.
Running long distances with Ataxia is no easy feat. The training, the physical toll, and the discipline required are immense. But every step I take is nothing compared to the lives I hope to change through this fundraiser. Every dollar raised will go towards food, medical care, warmth, and love for the hundreds of animals who arrive at AWL each week, giving them a fresh start and the hope of a brighter future.
I have been lucky to run in many incredible places around the world, but nothing compares to running in the state where I grew up and continue to train. My mantra that fuels my determination is from Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike: "If you have a body, you are an athlete."
I invite you to join me in this mission. Your support, whether big or small, can create real change for these vulnerable animals. Please consider donating to my fundraiser and help me make a meaningful impact on their lives.
